Golf Improves on Team Score at Swarthmore-Neumann Invitational

WILMINGTON, Del. – Three of five Devils to compete on Sunday posted a better score than last weekend, as the University of the Sciences men's golf team improved on last weekend's team score by seven strokes at the Swarthmore-Neumann Invitational at Rock Manor Golf Club on Sunday. 

Sophomore Andy Ring shot nine strokes better than last weekend, as he and teammate Mitchel Storb both carded an 83 to tie for 39th in the field of 82. Ring birdied two of the par-5's including the 18th, which Storb and Austin Staiano also birdied as well.

Staiano finished in a tie for 49th with a round of 86.

Freshmen Nik Athmann and Drew Grover each improved on their scores from last weekend by one stroke with respective rounds of 92 and 94. Notably, Athmann birdied the par-3 third. 

Host Swarthmore won the tournament by nine strokes with a team total of 297 and also had the individual champion, who totaled a -3 on par-71 course.     

USciences placed 12th with a team total of 344, nine strokes better than 13th place finishers Carin and Neumann.

University of the Sciences takes next weekend off before competing at the Charger Challenge next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23-24, at Spook Rook Country Club.
