PHILADELPHIA – For the second time in just over the span of a month, the University of the Sciences men's basketball team had one of its two seniors honored as the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association's Sam Cozen Player of the Week.
Gregorits posted back-to-back double-doubles last week, extending his run to five in the last seven games. He averaged 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in the two games, while shooting 11-of-18 (61.1 percent) from the field and 9-of-12 from the free throw line. The senior also added six assists against just two turnovers in 66 minutes.
Gregorits led all players with 11 rebounds and scored a team-high 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting at Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
He then posted game-highs of 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists as USciences overcame a 16-point first half deficit to tie Jefferson atop the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South with a 64-54 win on Saturday. The Burke, Va. native made 7-of-7 free throws and 5-of-9 field goals in the performance.
Gregorits moved his way up the program's record book with the two performances, as he became the sixth player in program history to surpass 500 career defensive rebounds and moved into eighth all-time with 224 career offensive rebounds. He is six defensive rebounds and 28 offensive rebounds shy of the top-five in program history, while his 725 career total rebounds leave him just 20 away from the top-10.
He has also scored 1,258 career points, which currently leaves him less than 200 away from 13th all-time.
Gregorits and University of the Sciences face their first CACC North opponent of the season when they travel to Bloomfield for an 8 p.m. tip on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
