Men’s Basketball Closes Out 2018 with 76-58 Victory over Cheyney

PHILADELPHIA – The University of the Sciences men's basketball team ended the 2018 calendar year with a 76-58 victory over Cheyney in its non-conference finale on Sunday afternoon at Bobby Morgan Arena. 

USciences scored the first 12 points of the contest as part of an opening 24-2 run and never looked back. 

Six Devils scored at least eight points, led by Paddy Casey and Sean Simon both pouring in 17.  

Casey made 12-of-14 free throws and led all players with six assists, while Simon made 6-of-8 field goals and 5-of-7 3-pointers in just 10 minutes off the bench. 

Brandon Starr and Beni Toure were both in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively.

Toure stuffed the stat sheet with six rebounds, four assists, and career-bests of three blocks and a game-high three steals.

Tanner Kerr also recorded a game-high with eight rebounds, to go along with nine points. 

Making his first career start, Michael Fox followed up his career-best 10 points with eight, and he set a new career-high in boards for the second game in a row with six.  

University of the Sciences outrebounded Cheyney 42-31, leading to a 25-2 advantage in second chance points. The Devils also forced 24 turnovers, which led to 24 points. 

USciences now enjoys the holiday break, before returning to action with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) clash at intra-city rival Jefferson on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 8 p.m.
