EWING, N.J. – Senior Borna Novak won two matches, one with junior Sahas Chandragiri and the other with freshman Borna Markusic, as the University of the Sciences men's tennis team opened its 2018-19 season at The College of New Jersey's Lions Doubles Tournament on Sunday.
After opening the day with a loss Novak paired with Chandragiri for an 8-7 tiebreak triumph over a duo from Ottawa University, prevailing in the tiebreaker 7-5, before teaming with Markusic for the rookies' first-ever win; an 8-5 decision over opponents from TCNJ.
Chandragiri also came close to a second victory, as he and Evan Halperin fell 6-8 to a team from TCNJ.
Halperin and Chamala were on the wrong side of a tiebreaker, 4-7, to come up just short of beginning the season with an opening-day victory.
USciences plays its first dual match of the season next Wednesday, Sept. 12 at Millersville, before returning to action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Regionals – hosted at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. – on Sept. 14-17.
