The University of the Sciences men's cross country team opened their season on Saturday at the 15th Annual Wilmington University Cross Country Invitational at Carousel Park in Wilmington, Delaware. The Devils recorded their best showing at the Invite since the 2011 season with a fourth place finish.
USciences recorded 92 points to hold down fourth place, ten points behind third place Goldey-Beacom College. Bloomfield College was second with 51 points while host Wilmington University placed their top five finishers in the top ten overall to win the meet with 27 points. The Devils previous best finish was a third place effort in 2011.
The Devils had their first four finishers place in the top 25 overall, led by freshman Christopher Robison (Middle Township HS/Del Haven, N.J.). Robison placed 16th overall completing the demanding 8,000-meter Carousel Park course in 32:02.54. Junior Tim Storino (Roman Catholic HS/Philadelphia, Pa.) was 20th overall with a time of 32:54.05. Senior Tommy Mauro (Carbondale HS/Carbondale, Pa.) was 23rd overall, finishing with a time of 33:41.23.
Rounding out the Devils top five finishers were freshman Billy Librizzi (Cedar Creek HS/Galloway, N.J.) and sophomore David Wilds (Haverford HS/Havertown, Pa.). Librizzi and Wilds placed 25th and 26th respectively with times of 34:23.57 for Librizzi and 34:27.42 for Wilds.
The men's cross country team returns to action on Saturday, September 12, 2015 when they compete at the Philadelphia Metro Championship at Belmont Plateau.
