WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The University of the Sciences softball team closed out its non-conference schedule at West Chester – the No. 2 team in the Atlantic Region - on Thursday afternoon.
USciences nearly got off to the perfect start, loading the bases in the top of first of game one.
The Golden Rams then came right out and scored in the bottom-half on a leadoff triple and sacrifice fly, and that turned out to be all they would need in a 3-0 win.
University of the Sciences was not able to advance another runner into scoring position, despite starting pitcher Kyla Colburn keeping the Devils in the game throughout.
The senior went the distance, turning in a quality start of six innings pitched and three earned runs. She scattered six hits and struck out two, against one walk.
Davis added a hit, in addition to her hit by pitch.
Keiya Moncilovich had USciences' other hit.
A five-run third inning was the only damage against starter Kaitlyn Gaynor in game two, and that turned out to be more than enough for the Golden Rams in a 5-0 victory.
The junior went the distance, surrendering the five runs on eight hits. She walked three and struck out two.
LaPlante and Madison Elie had University of Sciences' hits in the nightcap.
The Devils close out their 2018 campaign this weekend with two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheaders, the first coming at Felician on Saturday at 4 p.m.
