Philadelphia, Pa. - After helping lead the University of the Sciences women's basketball team to their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Championship in 10 years, along with their first NCAA playoff win over Bentley University. Sarah Abbonizio adds Philadelphia Academic All-Area Honors to her list of accomplishments after a stellar 2016-17 campaign. Abbonizio has one of the top GPA's on a team that carries a 3.529 cumulative GPA.
Abbonizio bounced back from a late-season knee injury in the 2015-16 season, coming back to start in all 29 games for the Devils and earn Second Team All-CACC for the women's basketball team. She averaged 13.1 points per game, shooting just over 41 percent from the field and 87 percent from the charity stripe in 93 trips. In 996 minutes, Abbonizio averaged 2.6 assists per game with a 1.1 assist to turnover ratio, while pulling down 109 rebounds on the season.

Abbonizio is amongst many bright individuals from NCAA Divisions I, II and III in the surrounding Philadelphia area to receive this award.
