The No. 19 University of the Sciences women's basketball team earned the No. 3 seed in the East Region and will play the sixth seed LIU Post in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, hosted by Stonehill, on Friday at 12 p.m., it was announced by the NCAA on Sunday night.
Hours after securing its second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship, and setting a new single-season program record with its 28th win, USciences (28-3) learned its destination as the NCAA revealed the Division II Women's Basketball Championship Bracket.
LIU Post (22-7) won the regular season East Conference (ECC) title with a 17-1 league mark, before falling in the Semifinals of its conference tournament. The Pioneers are 4-1 against CACC opposition this season, and have won 15 of their last 17 games.
There were no changes from final NCAA East Region Rankings that were released on Wednesday.
Stonehill, the Northeast10 (NE10) Regular Season Champion and a team the USciences beat 71-56 on Dec. 28, will host the Regional as the one seed. They will take on fellow NE10 member and eight seed Southern Connecticut State, with the winner advancing to take on the winner of No. 4 and ECC Tournament Champion St. Thomas Aquinas and No. 5 Caldwell.
No. 2 Bentley, the NE10 Tournament Champion top team on the other side of the bracket, will face No. 7 Jefferson, with the winner advancing to face the winner of USciences and LIU Post.
University of the Sciences has gone a combined 5-0 against Caldwell and Jefferson this season, including beating the two in the CACC Semifinals and Championship.
The Devils defeated Bentley 73-66 in the NCAA East Region Quarterfinals for their first-ever NCAA Tournament win last season.
