PHILADELPHIA – The two-time defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) champion University of the Sciences women's basketball team has unveiled its 2018-19 schedule.
The Devils' campaign begins at home on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. against American International as part of the annual Conference Challenge, which will also feature a matchup with Franklin Pierce the following day at 2 p.m.
Back-to-back matchups with 2018 NCAA Tournament teams follow, with a trip to West Chester on Wednesday, Nov. 14 as well as a neutral clash with Hillsdale (Michigan) at Rollins' Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday, Nov. 23. The winner of the latter will move on to Saturday's Championship Game to take on either on either the host or Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.
Those will be the first two of seven scheduled games with 2018 NCAA Tournament teams on the 28-game schedule.
USciences is also set to face Bentley and Stonehill, as well as Jefferson twice and Caldwell once in CACC play.
Following a road trip to Shippensburg on Wednesday, Nov. 28, the Devils' CACC schedule begins on Tuesday, Dec. 4 when Holy Family visits Bobby Morgan Arena for 5:30 p.m. tip.
After a Dec. 8 trip to Chestnut Hill, University of the Sciences takes nearly three weeks off before a stretch of three games in three days up in Massachusetts, which begins on Friday, Dec. 28 at Bentley.
The Devils have knocked off Bentley in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments as a lower seed, defeating the Falcons for their first-ever NCAA Tournament win in 2017 and then knocking off the No. 6 team in the country in 2018 to advance to their first-ever East Region Final and Sweet 16.
USciences then plays Assumption on Saturday, Dec. 29 as part of the Stonehill Holliday Classic, before matching up with the host the following day.
The Devils fell to Stonehill, 71-61, in the East Region Final (Sweet 16) last season.
The New Year begins on Thursday, Jan. 3 with the first of two matchups with Jefferson, this one on the road. The other takes place inside of Bobby Morgan Arena on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
University of the Sciences' aforementioned contest with Caldwell takes place at the Cougars on Monday, Jan. 28.
Notably, Caldwell also hosts this season's CACC Championships on March 9-10.
University of the Sciences returns 10-of-15 letterwinners from last year's CACC Championship squad, including starters Colleen Walsh, Alex Thomas and Jordan Vitelli. All three currently rank in the top-eight in program history in 3-point field goals.
Notably, Thomas is looking to become just the second player in program history (Brianne Traub) to earn All-CACC Honors in all four seasons. She currently ranks third in the program's annals with 1,318 career points.
The Devils also return their top bench player from a season ago in Irisa Ye, as well as key bench contributors Shannon May, Jess Huber, Marissa Sylvester, Mikaela Giuliani, Alyx McKiernan and Hadiya Tucker.
