Women’s Tennis Closes Out Spring Break Trip

ORLANDO – The University of the Sciences women's tennis team lost a second straight match by one point, 5-4 to Bentley on Thursday night, before closing out its spring break trip with a loss against Florida Tech on Friday.

The Devils (8-8) won 2-of-3 doubles matches against Bentley (12-6) , but dropped three three-setters in singles play.

The pairs of Karla Miletic and Abbygail Gamarnik and Danielle Paran and Elkanah Linder both continued their winning ways.

Miletic and Gamarnik's 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles was their second straight, leaving them one win behind Paran and Linder with 12 victories on the season.

Paran and Linder have won a team-high 13 matches together after prevailing in a tiebreaker, 9-7, at the second flight.

Paran was then one of two Devils to win in singles play, moving to an even 7-7 on the year with a comfortable 6-2, 6-1 decision at the fourth flight.

Gabrielle Soriano was the other winner, sweeping her No. 6 singles opponent to improve to a perfect 4-0 on the season.

The No. 1, 2 and 3 singles matches all went to three sets, with Bentley prevailing in each. 

Miletic swept her first flight opponent in the first set, before falling 3-6, 4-6 in the final two.

Gamarnik lost one game in the first set at No. 2 singles, before dropping the final two 4-6, 1-6.

Linder dropped the first set at No. 3 singles 2-6, before taking the second by the same score. She fell in the third set 3-6.

In the 9-0 loss against Florida Tech (10-2), Miletic and Paran each won a team-high four games in singles play, at the first and fourth flight, while the pair of Soriano and Julia James won a team-high three games at No. 3 doubles.

University of the Sciences returns north to play at District of Columbia on Thursday, March 15 at 11:30 a.m.
