Women’s Track and Field Makes Multiple Improvements Over the Weekend

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The University of the Sciences women's track and field team had multiple performers improve from their first meet two weeks ago at the Osprey Invitational hosted by Stockton University over the weekend.

Elizabeth Sauers is now the highest ranked Devil in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rankings as her time of 20:06.15 in the 5000m, which placed her fifth out of 23 at the meet, ranks fifth out of 23 in the league.

Jordyn Pursel, who is ranks sixth in the CACC triple jump, set three new collegiate personal records on the day; in the 100m, 200m and the long jump. She placed 11th out of 24 in the long jump with her furthest mark measuring at 4.44m, and 15th out of 38 in the 100m with a time of 13:47. She crossed in 27.85 in the 200m.

Also setting a collegiate personal record in the long jump was Elizabeth Eaton, whose mark measured at 4.22. 

Pursel and Eaton were part of the 4x100m relay team, along with Simran Sangu and Stephany Romero, that ran the event for the first time this season for USciences in 52.84.

Romero cleared 1.45m, a new collegiate personal record and seventh in the CACC, in the high jump to place fifth out of 15.

Sophie Hockran and Chloe Georges both set two collegiate personal records on the day.

Hockran placed 12th out of 36 in the discus with a mark of 28.77m, and she measured in at 9.59m in the shot put. She also competed in the Hammer for the first time, with her furthest toss traveling 24.98m.

Georges' two personal bests also came in the shot put (9.73m) and the discus (24.41m).

Shane Bishop was one spot shy of the top-half of the field in the 1500m, crossing 18th in 5:38.29, while Paige Jacobs ran the event in 5:49.48.

Those two were also part of the 4x800m relay team with Sauers and Bridget Houghton that ran the event for USciences the first time this season in 11:04.32.

University of the Sciences next competes at the Widener Invite next weekend.
