Hockran Scores in Two Events as Women’s Track and Field Competes at Program’s First-Ever CACC Championships

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Sophie Hockran scored in two events to highlight the University of the Sciences women's track and field program's first-ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships experience on Sunday at Georgian Court.

Sophie Hockran earned a team-high five points by scoring in two events, placing a team-best fifth in the discus while also setting two collegiate personal records.

Hockran marked at 29.10m in the discus before going on to place eighth for one point in the hammer, throwing a collegiate best of 26.83m.

Her other collegiate best, 9.91m, came in the shot put, where fellow thrower Chloe Georges earned herself a fifth place finish by setting a new collegiate personal record of 10.60m.

Also earning individual points was Elizabeth Sauers, who placed sixth in the 5000m with a time of 20:28.07 for three.

Notably, Paige Jacobs set a new collegiate personal record of 22:10.05 in the event.

The 4x100m relay team of Stephany Romero, Simran Sangu, Elizabeth Eaton and Jordyn Pursel rounded out USciences' point total. The quartet ran a season-best for the second event in a row, combining to cross in 51.97 to score two points with a seventh place finish. 

Pursel (triple jump) and the 4x400m relay team of Jacobs, Eaton, Bridget Houghton and Shane Bishop narrowly missed out on extra points for the Devils with ninth place finishes. Pursel also placed 10th in the 100m.

Notably, Houghton won her section of the 800m in a collegiate personal record of 2:44.31 to place 16th overall.

Eaton set a new collegiate personal record in the long jump, marking at 4.22m, while Romero cleared 1.47m in the high jump for a new collegiate best.

University of the Sciences' 14 total points placed the Devils in 10th, five points ahead of 11th-place Dominican.

Georgian Court won the event with 211 points, beating out second-place Bloomfield by 15. Post finished third with 94.
