PHILADELPHIA – The University of the Sciences women's volleyball team will open its season in just over two weeks with an 11 a.m. match at East Stroudsburg on Saturday, Aug. 25.
That will be the first of 27 matches for the Devils in their 2018 campaign, as the schedule was made public on Thursday.
In coordination with the upcoming season, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) also released the 2018 CACC Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll, with the Devils tabbed to finish seventh in the South Division.
University of the Sciences opens its CACC schedule on Thursday, Sept. 6 at Jefferson, the first of five matches over three days as the Devils travel to Millersville for four matches in two days on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8.
USciences open its home schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. against Holy Family. That will be the first of 12 home matches for the Devils on the 2018 schedule, which includes non-conference dates with Bowie St. on Wednesday, Oct. 10 and Lincoln on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
University of the Sciences returns nine student-athletes from its 2017 roster, including its leaders in kills, assists, blocks, service aces and digs per set. The Devils' top six leaders in digs per set, as well as thier top three leaders in kills per set, are all back.
Leading the way is rising junior Sarah Miller, who in addition to leading the team with an average of 1.93 kills per set, also led the NCAA with an average of 0.72 services aces per set.
Other team leaders who return include rising seniors Rhiannon Comia (3.88 digs per set), Brooke Witmer (0.82 blocks per set) and Cassandra Moy (6.84 assists per set).
Notably, Comia and Witmer both ranked eighth in the CACC in those respective stats in 2017.
Also returning are Jenna Kwiecinski, Rebekah Jauhola-Straight and Danielle Taylor, while the Devils will be boosted by the arrivals of sophomore Allison Mark and freshmen Bianca Galis, Caelin Jaskot and McKayla Kelly.
