BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – University of the Sciences' Nate Steele has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Hitter of the week, for his performances during the week of February 25-March 3.
Steele, also selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week for the first time in his career, began USciences' Spring Break trip 6-for-10 against defending Division III national champion Tyler-Texas and Gannon (doubleheader), recoding multiple hits in all three games.
He was also hit by two pitches and walked once for an on-base percentage of .692, while driving in four runs and scoring another.
Steele was hit by a pitch to tie Saturday's game against Tyler-Texas at six in top of the ninth. That capped another multi-hit, multi-RBI performance, his third straight, as it was he who made it a one-run game in the fifth with a two-out, two-RBI double.
The junior then finished the doubleheader against Gannon on Sunday 4-for-6 with a walk and a hit by pitch.
