PHILADELPHIA – Connor Murphy led all players with 27 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks in the University of the Sciences men's basketball team's 103-82 loss to Chestnut Hill on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Morgan Arena.

The freshman set new season-bests in points, blocks and also steals (two), while shooting 10-of-15 from the floor in 31 minutes for his fifth double-double in nine games.

Sean Simon added 12 points, including 6-of-6 free throws, while Paddy Casey had 11 points – including 4-of-4 free throws - and a team-high seven assists.

University of the Sciences set new season-best with 24 free throws made, as well as 10 steals.

The Devils could not slow down a Chestnut Hill offense that shot 56.9 percent from the field (37-of-65) and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc (12-of-24) though.

There were six lead changes and three ties in the opening 4:17 before the Griffins took the lead for good, 14-11, on a 3-pointer with 15:26 remaining in the first half that sparked nine unanswered.

Trailing by as many as 14, USciences was able to get as close as six when a Simon 3-pointer made the score 42-36 2:01 ahead of the break, but CHC scored the final six points of the first half for a 48-36 advantage heading into the locker room.

University of the Sciences only managed to get as close as nine in the second half, the final occurrence coming on a Javon Gordon layup to bring the Devils within 53-44 with 17:40 to play.

USciences' game at Cheyney, scheduled for Monday, Dec. 30, has been cancelled, so the Devils will next take the floor in the New Year on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Concordia.
