Three School Records Set as Sprinters, Jumpers and Throwers Open Track and Field’s 2019 Season on Saturday

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Three newcomers set school records, as the University of the Sciences track and field program kicked off its 2019 campaign with sprinters, jumpers and throwers competing at Ursinus' Collegeville Invitational on Saturday.

Freshman McKayla Kelly was also one of three Devils to earn USciences points on the afternoon, picking up one after winning her flight with a school-record toss of 10.64m in the shot put to place eighth out of 37 competitors.

Sophie Hockran was right behind her in ninth with a collegiate personal record of 10.41m.

Christina Holmes qualified fourth amongst 42 sprinters in the 60m, winning her heat with a school-record time of 8.11. The graduate transfer did not run in the final due to a minor injury.

On the men's side, freshman Macniel Mandeh set the school record in the 60m with a time of 7.28 to win his prelim and qualify for the final with the 11th-fastest time amongst 47 sprinters.

Alton McKenley was right behind him in 12th as he also won his heat after crossing in 7.45. The freshman then bettered his time to 7.38 in the final.

McKenley also had the highest USciences finish of the day, placing third out of 36 in the long jump with a mark of 6.62m to earn six points.

Rounding out USciences' point total was freshman Joseph San Filippo, who placed fifth out of 11 for four points with a mark of 12.06m in the triple jump.

Placing in the top-half of the field in two events on the afternoon was Eric Papazian, who ran a 7.61 in the 60m for the 23rd-fastest time and a 24.89 in the 200m to place 20th out of 46.

Koy Connors also placed in the top-half of the field of an event, marking at 5.90m in the long jump to finish 16th.
