Early Deficits Doom Softball in Season-Openers on Saturday

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The University of the Sciences softball team fell behind 7-0 through two innings in both of its games on Saturday, as the Devils opened their 2019 season down in Florida as part of their Spring Break trip.

USciences could not overcome those early deficits in eventual 8-0 and 12-3 losses to Saint Rose and Tiffin, respectively.

Freshmen relief pitcher Nina Cencetti highlighted the day with 3.1 relief innings of one-run ball against Saint Rose, including throwing a scoreless third and fourth, in the freshman's first career collegiate appearance.

She also recorded a hit in her first career at-bat.

Fellow freshmen Miranda RodriguezGabrielle Simms and Lauren Ordemann all also collected their first career collegiate hits on their first day of collegiate action.

Rebecca Colandrea and Camille Brown both finished with two hits on the day.

Freshman Paige Schlechter retired the first eight batters she faced in relief against Tiffin, before running into trouble in the sixth and seventh.

University of the Science is back at it tomorrow with two more games against Concordia St. Paul at 4 p.m. and Trevecca Nazarene at 6:15 p.m.
