ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The University of the Sciences softball team could not get the bats going until late in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader sweep at Nyack on Saturday afternoon.
After not scoring in a 4-0 game one, USciences cut a 5-0 deficit to 5-2 in the fourth inning of the nightcap, but the Devils could not get closer in an eventual 9-5 loss.
Rebecca Colandrea led the offense on the day with a 2-for-3 performance in game two, which included her third career home run, a double, three RBI and a run.
Evangelina Olivera also had two hits, her first multi-hit game of the season.
Brittany Rickard reached base two times with two base on balls.
Gabrielle Simms drove in two runs.
After LaPlante was stranded, a one-out walk and back-to-back two-out singles gave Nyack the only lead it would need in the bottom half.
Aside from that, Gaynor did not allow anything until the bottom of the sixth, when three straight hits with two outs led to three more runs on a three-run home run.
University of the Sciences hosts Kutztown for Senior Day tomorrow at 12 p.m. In-between games, the Devils will honor seniors Olivera, Gaynor, Colandrea and Rickard.
