Women’s Tennis Improves to 2-0 in CACC Play with 5-2 Win Over Post in Home-Opener at Hamlin/Hecht Center

PHILADELPHIA – The University of the Sciences women's tennis team made its home debut at the Hamlin/Hecht Center one to remember, as it defeated Post 5-2 to improve to 2-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Saturday afternoon. 

USciences (3-2, 2-0 CACC) won the doubles point, as well as four of the first five singles match. 

Elkanah Linder, Stephanie Mazurek and Julia James each won twice on the day, with Karla Miletic and Abbygail Gamarnik also winning.  

James made history on the afternoon, moving into a tie for seventh in program history with her 23rd career singles victory, as well as a tie for eighth in program history with her 19th career doubles win. 

Linder and Mazurek paired at No. 2 doubles for their second straight CACC victory, 6-3, while James and Gamarnik moved to a perfect 2-0 together with a 6-1 decision at the third flight. 

Linder and Mazurek then both extended their singles winning streak to four matches, with each improving to a team-best 5-3 on the season. 

Linder's fourth flight went three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, while Mazurek's swept her fifth flight opponent. 

James also won in straight sets, 7-1, 7-6 (3), at No. 6 singles, while Miletic earned a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 decision at the sixth flight in her first CACC singles match of the season. 

The result moved Miletic into second in program history with 37 career singles wins. 

In the most tightly contested match of the afternoon, Gamarnik narrowly missed out on a 2-0 day with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 loss at No. 2 singles. 

In the midst of three home CACC matches in four days, University of the Sciences will next host Concordia on Monday, Oct. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
