WILMINGTON, Del. – Looking to defeat a second defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular season champion in less than a week, the USciences women's tennis team got off to a good start by taking the doubles point at Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday afternoon.

Despite Karla Miletic pulling out a three-set comeback at the first flight, the Devils could not take another point in singles play though, falling on the wrong side of two other three-setters in a 5-2 loss to the Lightning.

University of the Sciences held on in its two doubles triumphs, with Miletic and Myka Williams taking the first flight 7-5, and Myra Anwar and Stephanie Mazurek winning 6-4 at the third flight.

Both duos remain undefeated together, with Miletic and Williams improving to 3-0 and Mazurek and Anwar moving to 2-0. Both are also 2-0 in CACC play.

Miletic and Mazurek now lead the team with four doubles victories each.

After Goldey-Beacom (4-0, 4-0 CACC) took second, fourth and sixth flight singles in straight sets for a 3-1 lead, Miletic gave USciences hope by coming from behind for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the first flight.

Mazurek and Anwar were edged in the third set of No. 3 and No. 5 singles though, ultimately giving the Lightning the 5-2 decision.

Fresh off being announced as the CACC Player of the Week earlier in the afternoon, Miletic ran her singles win streak to four matches, which includes going a perfect 3-0 in the league.

She is now tied with Mazurek for the team lead with four singles wins, with Mazurek falling just short of a fifth victory after her 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 setback at the third flight.

Anwar won the first set of her fifth flight match 6-4, before dropping the second and third 2-6, 3-6.

University of the Sciences is back on the road tomorrow, Oct. 2, for an 11 a.m. non-conference match at the University of District of Columbia.
