PHILADELPHIA – Elizabeth Sauers earned a top-five finish in the field of 112, helping the University of the Science women's cross country team to a sixth place finish in the field of 16 at the Philadelphia Metro Cross Country Championship on Saturday afternoon at Belmont Plateau.
USciences totaled 190 points to place fifth out of the 10 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) teams in attendance at the site of this year's CACC Championship, two points behind fifth place Georgian Court.
A week after winning her third career title, Sauers placed fifth in the deep field. She completed the 5K in 21:07.8 to finish just over 15 seconds behind the winner, and less than two seconds behind fourth place.
Emily Brand narrowly missed out on joining them in the top-half of the field as she shaved nearly 45 seconds off her time from a week ago to place 57th.
Paige Jacobs (24:50.5) then led a stretch of three straight Devils to cross as she was followed by Muskan Khandare (24:50.5) and Olivia DeLorenzo (24:52.2), who both bettered their times from a week ago. Notably, Khandare's time was over 25 seconds faster.
